About Richard Chan

Richard Chan is a Senior Software Engineer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. He builds user- and mission-focused products, working mostly across React, TypeScript, JavaScript, and C#. He is currently delivering modernization work at Olivine, migrating legacy systems onto modern React and C# stacks, and is open to a full-time senior engineering role on a team that values technical rigor and design fluency.

Background

Richard was born in California, raised in Venezuela, and studied in Venezuela, California, and Hong Kong before settling back in the Bay Area. That path shaped how he works: he is comfortable being the person on a team who bridges languages, contexts, and assumptions. He is fluent in Spanish, English, and Cantonese, and is currently learning Mandarin.

What he builds

Richard is the creator of Tiny Tasks, a Chrome extension for a modern to-do list, used by more than 1,000 daily active users across 50+ countries. He also builds Rezzy, booking and front-desk software for salons, barbershops, nail studios, and spas — a booking page, a client book that builds itself, automatic follow-ups, and reports, with no commissions. His smaller experiments and side projects live at tinylabs.cc. He previously wrote at notyourtypicalasian.com, which is paused but still online as an archive.

Outside of engineering

Richard has completed 10 marathons with a personal record of 3 hours and 32 minutes, and competed as a national soccer athlete in Venezuela, winning two championships. He reads constantly — the running list of what he is reading and has read is published on the readings page.

middlekid.io is Richard's personal site. It is intentionally small: a home page, a now page describing current focus, a reading list, the gear he uses, and a list of things that bring him joy. It is built with Astro, deployed on Vercel, and every page is available as Markdown to any client that sends Accept: text/markdown.
